We have a new IS

We have a new Information Systems in the office. I'm glad they finally thought about dry runs and drills. I'm expecting a lot of complaints pointing to this new system. When the biometric machine - used for the DTR - was installed we were never formally briefed on how to use it. There were complaints because sometimes it takes you 5 attempts before you're logged in.

The new IS is net-based DTR connected to the HQ. The connection speed here is what a friend of mine terms as, "break neck turtle speed." It's sometimes so d**n slow and as if to add insult to injury there's the browser refresh rate which is slower than the turtle. Whachamacalit? Snail? Whenever deadlocks occur, it takes a gawd awful long time to restart the ancient PC. And lastly there is the issue called server downtime. Though that doesn't happen often, it's better to be safe than sorry.

It didn't take a genius to figure out how much time it took for a person to be logged on. Tadaaaannn, 4 minutes! Would you believe that? So that all in all it takes 8 minutes to process just a single employee. Gawdness!

Bottomline: there would be a long line of employees waiting for their turn to login (or out) and when any of those problems I described would occur, a long line of irate and late employees. Hmmm what's to happen to this new IS? I guess we have a week to find out. For sure, whether it's operationally feasible or not, it's still gonna be management's decision whether to adopt the new IS or not. However, I bet they will adopt it no matter what... ;p

  1. Well you could now be late and then blame it on the new system.
