One of the things that I miss about my family is the get togethers that we used to do when we were little. When my father went AWOL, my mom really took some time off from her busy schedule just so we could enjoy an overnight stay at our favorite beach resort.
We couldn't make it last year because all our financial resources were spent on our sister who was taking up nursing. This year I told my mom I'd treat the whole family to the beach as her birthday gift and graduation gift for my sister. It was fun! We went to the island across from the area where we lived. We got the family car rolling on the barge and stayed overnight at the favorite resort. We love this resort because it's affordable, and not so crowded therefore few persons get drunk and do lots of mischief like... We were surprised at the changes though. It was not as inexpensive and there were lots of people crowding the place. There were guys drinking at the shoreline near our cottage and oh boy they were rowdy. My other companions were watchful lest they do something stupid when they got drunk, like drowning. Thank goodness, they just ran after each other on the shores which prompted some people from the nearby cottages to shushh them. Well, it was not Boracay where people can party all night. Early in the morning, one of the guys went over to our hut and asked if we had coffee which he can buy because he was hungry. Huh, They didn't bring food with them?
I bought my tent with me and mounted it on the sand. We looked and felt cool until we realized that the sand was not an ideal place to mount a tent, you coudn't stretch the fly as much because the sand would later shift which causes the pegs to move and produce slack. Further, it's difficult to construct a small canal at the side of the tent to catch those water drifting from the tent fly in case it rained.
The next morning, I wanted to enjoy taking a dip some more but it was a low tide so that you had to go further from the original shoreline. It wasn't fun avoiding the rocks with menacing looking sea urchins when I coundn't take it any longer looking at them I decided to get out of the water. My 2 brothers, sister, mom, and uncle were braver but later my sis got 3 stings from them urchins when her foot brushed past one. I've been there before so I know how uncomfortable urchin stings are. Well, she's a nurse surely she can take care of herself. =)
Oh yeah, all my three brothers and my mom are avid swimmers and we got our free tutorial there. Among the three brothers, my second brother is the one who knows swimming techniques and stuff. My sister and my uncle were fast learners, I on the other hand errr... However I know how to do my back float and jelly fish float which I owe to the short swimming lessons I had back in high school. So hah! It's nice to know that I know something they don't, hehehe...
