A friend asked to see this and give my thoughts.
This movie spoke to me in volumes in the context of how I feel and below was my response to him.

SIGNS
00:17 / 00:31 He is alone. Wakes up to an empty bed, eats alone.
He is lonely.
00:40 He longs for company but he is rather shy.
1:09 / 2:52 "Is there nothing but work?"
1:19 He tries to make a connection but fails.
He sees a couple happily kiss and longs for another human contact.
1:40 He struggles to conform. "Is there nothing else but this?"
He longs for another soul on his answering machine. What his family thinks vs what his reality is.
3:11 HOPE. She is alone too!
3:24 But he looks away.
3:56 UNCERTAINTY, SHYNESS. "Is she looking at me?"
4:07-4:46 THE FIRST EXCHANGE
First "contact", uncertainties, excitement at finally "meeting" a new person.
7:46 Everything is rosy now but he wants/longs for something more. A new level a personal contact.
8:26 She got promoted? A missed opportunity?
10:30 All the while she was waiting for him to make the first move.
10:53-11:07 I love this scene. Faithful to their mode of communication.
We will always long for human contact because we are not designed to be alone. I am seeing parallels in online/SMS relationships. I will not label that as romantic because I've seen these happen in friendships as well. You meet someone online or through SMS and as the relationship deepens there is the desire to take it to a higher level or not (ultimately that is the decision of both parties). In G+ since we are mostly separated by oceans then there is the Hangouts.
We all have the potential to make someone's day, the potential to touch and change others in a positive way.
Personally, first meetings are always a pressure because I am a shy person. I remember the time you started the conversation and I was like "What do I say???"
If no one makes the first move nothing happens. If you don't grab opportunities, you might miss it. Or there could be other chances up for grabs but then how would you know if there would be another chance?
6:41 "I was watching you first." Reminded me of one of our conversations the time you said you wanted to circle me two months back.
