I was at the mall having coffee and donuts in a world famous donut place. The table across mine was occupied by a family composed of three little kiddos, a mom and a dad. In a nearby table sat Yaya, a young woman who I estimate to be in her late teens to early twenties. My first thought was, "The Family that dines together, stays together." What bothered me with this scene though was that the family was eating donuts with drinks to down 'em while the Yaya only had donuts. I mean it wouldn't hurt your wallet if you gave Yaya some water would it? You could even ask for the water from the busboys (or whatever they are called).
When my siblings and I were younger, we used to have a househelp and we treated her like family. We'd suffer a scolding if we so much as showed her signs of disrespect. She dined together with the family and took part of meal time convos. We never shouted commands or hauled invectives at her when she committed mistakes. My siblings and I don't give her all of our chores because then Mom would go ballistic. Why? Because she's a person.
PS: The coffee was not to my liking.
