Rest In Peace

Last saturday, a neighbor who committed suicide was laid to his final resting place. He was 26 years old. We were shocked by what he did. I mean who wouldn't be? On the day he committed suicide November 5, 2006, he was seen at the village fun run. He was last year's winner of the said event. this year he was heard saying "Sayang nahuli ako". Afterwards, he went with his friends to the beach to have a mini celebration. When he came home, as chismiz would have it, he had an argument with his wife. As chismiz would have it also, the cause of the fight was jealousy. Now here's the interesting part, he was jealous of a text message sent to his wife. The message allegedly said "Thanks for being nice", among other things. After his death, his friends tried calling the number but the "subscriber cannot be reached". They never knew the identity of the texter.

I don't think though that that was the only motive for hanging himself in their bedroom, he could've been problematic and depressed for the longest time but was really good at hiding it. Maybe the people around him noticed subtle changes in his personality but just shrugged it off. No matter what, if you're a friend and you noticed something amiss, ask that person immediately. Maybe that person is begging to be noticed. I would know I was suicidal once in my life.

As for the text. Well, could've been a prank or could've been real. Either way, I believe that any domestic problem can be solved with a an honest and open talk. Forget about pride chicken for a while. Getting to the root of the matter will give both parties peace and closure. Because closure is something we always hope for in all our relationships. For all of you out there who like making prank texts please choose your victim/s wisely. Make sure you know them that well. Otherwise you'll end up suffering for your foolishness. Or better yet don't do it.

Lastly, what makes me so sad is that he left behind 3 very young kids and it was one of the kids who saw him hanging lifeless in their house. Imagine the trauma. ='(
