I only watch TV at night even when right now I'm enjoying my vacation. Makes sense cause I'm out of the house most days. Yesterday, while trying to do some Flash stuff, my attention was caught by Wowowee. Their contestants were mothers who have special kids. As they related their stories to them I coudn't help but admire them for their courage and strength. I may not have a kid of my own I know that it's not an easy task to raise kids much less look after just one. I was only 9 when my working parents left me sometimes to care for the youngest sibling who was at that time still a baby. Looking after a baby is a huge responsibility and to think that I only did the bathing, feeding, burping, and putting the baby to sleep during the day. It was fun though. In yesterdays show, the moms bought their special kids with them and I was touched by their love and I could see that they are just as proud of their special kids as they do the normal ones. These mothers proudly told Willie what their talents are. One kid amazed me when he sang the song 'Hawak Kamay'. The most wonderful story though was the story of a couple who was married for 5 years and still childless. One night they found a newborn baby intentionally left on a creek. They adopted the baby when they could have left it to the care of hospices. The said baby is now 13 years old but bound to a wheelchair. They are something!
Later in the day, I went to an eating spree at the house of a friend. They were celebrating their village fiesta. To amuse myself, I watched Heroes on DVD. It's a TV series with a fresh take on an old subject, Evolution. Yes, I know your thinking X-Men. Well sort of. The same with X-Men, the show's main characters have super powers such as levitation, teleportation, flying etc etc. However, unlike X-Men they don't walk around wearing costumes and ride flying vehicles. The characters are just ordinary persons, a nurse, a cheerleader, an office employee who have yet to learn just how special they are. Cheng was right, it's a great show and I now have another TV series to add to my list of collectibles.
I'd define the word hero as an ordinary person living an extraordinary life. My personal hero is my mom and if you've been following my blog you'd know why. With that let me say: HAPPY MAMA'S DAY to all moms out there! May you be blessed beyond your expectations because you have a generous heart; because you have taken on the joy of childbirth and the challenges of raising kids and taking care of the family and for some having a career on top of everything else.
