"And now for today's weather..."

It has been raining nights since Monday here in the metro. Ordinarily, I don't mind the discomfort. Last night was different though. There was a 'great flood' from the near the glass doors to my favorite gate. It was the worst flood since 5 or 6 years ago. Someone with imagination decided to cross the lake via an improvised bridge made up of monobloc chairs soon enough others followed suit. This however it was not an easy task for someone who is bound by company policy to wear skirts and heels to work. I was forced to use the other gate through a different route that would take a longer time to reach the place where I wait for my ride home. By this time, I was feeling mad because the drainage problem in the office until I passed by a colleague waiting for the water to subside. Told myself, "Never mind, at least I don't have a motorcycle to wait for."

The walk to the jeepney stop made me remember last summer. Those days, taking frequent baths in a day, wearing light clothing, and drinking plenty of water is sometimes not enough to keep you feeling fresh and light. Fastforward to the present, it's just a bath, having plenty of water is something that I forget and I wear two layers of clothing most days. I can't tolerate too cold a weather which you might find ironic because I am a mountain climber. Heck, when it gets too cold up there, I stay in the tent all the time.

This morning when I came in, an officemate told me of the misadventures that she has suffered because of the weather. She too had to take a different route to avoid the flood. It was a good thing that she ran into two neighbors. After more than an hour of waiting for their ride, one companion hinted that if they walk further, they might chance upon a jeepney which was not yet full. So off they went and they came upon motorcab drivers who were rioting. Hah! What do you know, their 10 meter walk turned into a full kilometer before they were able to get a ride.
